…sitting in my office (on the gurney in the trauma center) checking my mail and trying to write something sensible for the hyperbaric chambers’ “policy and procedures” manual when, to my surprise, the manager of the dive shop comes in and says “can you take over the IDC?”

“huh!?” (i can be very articulate sometimes)

it seems the god of all course directors decided spontaneously (in a fit of ego) to dump his IDC class and walk out on his students and the dive shop with a full 4 days to go in a 12 day program.

today is the day we see if i was able to pull off a successful rescue.

changes and amazement

there have been a lot of changes on this little island over the past six months.

and it never fails to amaze me how strongly people feel about holding on to and even expanding “their” piece of the pie when this happens. especially when these people had absolutely nothing to do with making the pie in the first place.

of course the feeling of “ownership” seems to be directly proportional to the amount of damage they, personally, have inflicted upon the business during their sojourn.

all they see is the possibility that their little party might be coming to an end.

and it scares them to think that they might have to go home and start growing up.

on their own dime.
